The UK government has unveiled a £30m investment plan to accelerate Northern Ireland’s science and technology industries, with support for defence, manufacturing and innovation at its core. The funding, part of the 10-year Modern Industrial Strategy, will be delivered in partnership with the Stormont Executive and aims to give businesses greater confidence for long-term investment.

The announcement follows £2m already committed to Queen’s University Belfast’s Cybersecurity AI Tech Hub and was made at the historic Harland & Wolff shipyard, now revitalised through a defence contract to build three Navy support ships with Navantia UK. Alongside the funding, 35 new apprentices are set to join the shipyard next week, signalling fresh opportunities for local talent and the region’s industrial renewal.
